Congratulations! You have just been hired at the
Cell-to-Cell
Sales office in Cytotukee. You now have
the daunting task of selling the building blocks of cells to different cell
builders in the town. We have had a
sudden decline in sales lately, and as a consequence a sudden increase in
mortality rate has plagued our population.
(We think the last salesperson was a few cells short of a tissue, if you
know what I mean.) So now you need to
really move these organelles, or you might be forced into apoptosis. Your new boss will be
assigning you an organelle so Good luck!
Presentation

Cell
Construction Project
In addition to developing a
sales pitch for an organelle, you will be a buyer of organelles as you plan the
construction of your own personal cell! Your boss will hold a drawing of the most
important eukaryotic cell he would
like to construct (there are over 200 types of cells in a human body, plus
several different types of plant cells, fungal cells, algae cells, etc.). So
don’t be late for the drawing. You will have a budget of $100 to spend to
construct a functional cell. Once you
pick your cell type begin to plan its construction using detailed information
available at this link
.
1.
Ask yourself what
will I need to build my cell
2.
Use this
organelle purchase form
to plan what
you will need to buy for your cell.
3.
After you have
purchased all of your parts write a cell
construction proposal describing:
a.
What type of cell
you are proposing to construct.
b.
How you will use
the parts and what do they do for your particular cell?
c. How does your cell fit into the environment?
